How sweet it could be

Another Turkey day weekend has been survived. My family, somewhere in the bush hunting partrige, not the family, the bird. My sweeties family, all over for the requisite bird and all the trimmings, but they don't all sit around a table and say grace like majority of people. Some are in the basement eating and watching somone play on the Gamecube or the Playstation, some are in the kitchen trying to get the kids to eat and some others are in front of the TV in the living room watching CSI... while eating. I figured it was because the kitchen table didn't have enough room to seat them all, but no, they've always done it this way and probably always will.

Oh well, it could be a lot worse, when I was with my ex-hubby the parents would be drunk by noon, the kids pleasantly drunk by mealtime and by then the head of the household was passed out in the mashed taters.... charming. I mean, have a drink or two if you want, but geez, try and stay concious long enough for the dishes to hit the sink or at least keep the fighting down to a dull roar so the neighbors don't call the cops... Yeah, they put the Dis in dysfunctional for sure, but strangely they seemed happy with their arrangement and couldn't understand why I didn't enjoy myself with them. They chalked it up to me not being "country" enough. I chalked it up to me being too "sober", had nothing to do with "country" or "city".

Well sweetie and I are hoping to buy a house of our own someday, then we can start our own family traditions. i have a feeling that it will still involve lot's of dirty dishes, Gamecube, PS2's and TV's, but i'm hoping nobody will ever be passed out in the mashed taters :P
